Chewelah invites neighbors and welcomes guests to join us in celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. We have a week full of special events planned, including a classic July 4th parade, historic walks, a mysterious scavenger hunt, incredible performances, and daily community gatherings.

Operation: Mayhem!

Permission to run amok! For ten days, Chewelah becomes a playground for creativity, kindness, and a bit of chaos. This is a scavenger hunt like no other. It's for creatives, families, weirdos, history buffs, meme goblins, trivia lovers, and curious humans of all ages. Complete missions, earn points, and surprise yourself. Play as a family or gather your weirdest friends. No talent or inhibitions required. Registration opens soon.

Chewelah Farmers Market

Join the farmers market in the city park for an Independence Day Celebration featuring Rachelle Baumann of Say it in Silver singing the National Anthem, special speaker, County Commissioner and retired Chewelah Police Chief Mark Burrows. And an entertaining performance from national award winner and Stevens County Stomper, Hannah Johnson who will be clogging to patriotic bluegrass!

4th of July Parade

Set up your lawn chair along the parade route as we celebrate America's 250th together. Cheer on neighbors rolling by in classic cars, tractors, and maybe even some horses—it’s summer, just the way we remember it.  Click here to get the parade map, register, or volunteer.

Picnic Fun
July 4th - 12:00 PM

Picnic in the Park

After the parade, join your neighbors for a community picnic in city park! The Lions Club will be serving free hot dogs, chips, water, and watermelon. KCHW will host the music played by DJ Evergreen. Games begin for the cornhole tournament at 12:30. Speakers will take the stage at 1:30pm, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The event will close with Craig McQuian singing the National Anthem.

Picnic Fun
July 4th - 1:30 PM

Reading - Declaration of Independence

After the July 4th Parade, go to the city park for a picnic! Bring your basket & a blanket to setup your spot. There will be tunes by DJ Evergreen, fun games, and maybe a contest or two. The Lions Club is providing the food (while supplies last). We'll hear from Mayor Baxtor, Bill Matt Sr. from the Spokane Tribe, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Craig McQuain will end the day with a singing of the National Anthem.

Cornhole Tournament

While you're at the picnic, join us on the east side of city park to play or cheer for the cornhole tournament. Games begin at 12:30pm. Register your 2-Person team.

Guided Cemetery Tour

Our own local self-taught historian, Sally Paramore, will host a tour of the Historic Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery. She'll share information about the major restorations, locating lost gravesites, and stories about some of the many veterans buried there. Reserve your spot on the tour!

Washington's Magnificent Magnesite

Join us for a one-night showing of the documentary by Donahue Labs about Chewelah's rich history and the magnesite mines. Washington State has a rich geological history, including nationally important ore resources. Come learn the incredible story of Washington's Magnesite Belt featuring Chewelah's Geno Ludwig, Jared Goguen, and Chad Pritchard.
